Main and head stud installation instructions

Main Studs Head Studs
Head Studs-

With stock style composite head gasket

#1- Make sure all block threads are clean, its a good idea to chase the block threaded holes with a tap to insure thread quality.
 
#2- Install studs in block hand tight with moly lube on both ends of the stud.
 
#3- Then install head with head gasket (be sure to use a little RTV on the front cover area).
 
#4- Next install washers and nuts with moly lube on both sides of each washer.
 
#5- After that torque studs to 25ft/lbs (in order shown below), then repeat to 45ft/lbs, then repeat to 55ft/lbs, and loosen all studs.
 
#6- Finally torque studs to 25ft/lbs (in order shown below), then repeat to 45ft/lbs, then finally repeat order tightening to 60ft/lbs.

NOTE- If using an MLS head gasket such as the Cometic gaskets, set #5 can be omitted.

Main Studs-

#3- Then install mains with bearings.
 
#4- Next install washers and nuts with moly lube on both sides of each washer.
 
#5- Finally torque studs to 25ft/lbs (in order shown below), then repeat order to 45ft/lbs, then finally repeat order tightening to 60ft/lbs.
